How To Get 150% More Google Keyword Research Results

Wistia video thumbnail

This week's tip is a quick one from Greg Gifford at DealerOn that will help you be a MUCH better marketer for your dealership.

One of the most important aspects of SEO and PPC marketing campaigns is keyword research – you need to know what words are included in how people search for the cars, trucks, parts and services you sell, so you can optimize your website content and create better performing ads.

A favorite keyword research tool among automotive marketers is Google itself – So, you may already have noticed that if you start typing in a search phrase and "don't hit enter," you'll see the Autosuggest results. These auto-populated searches show what related searches are most often performed by Google users.

Most people only see 4 Autosuggest results, but we are here to share with you a simple settings tweak that will show you 10 keyword results... A 150% increase!

if you do any sort of marketing for your dealership, this is a killer tip!

One of the most important aspects of SEO is keyword research – you've got to figure out the right keywords to target. It's important to know what people actually type into Google when they're searching for the things that you sell.

It's important for offline marketing as well – if you understand how customers look for your products or services and how they think about your business, it's much easier to create targeted ads that convert car shoppers into sales opportunities.

While there are a ton of great keyword research tools online, our favorite is a free one that everyone's already got – Google.

If you go to Google and start typing a keyword phrase and don't hit enter, you'll see the Autosuggest searches populate below the search field. Most people see the default of 4 results, but we're going to explain a simple settings change that will show you 10 results:

1 --> Go to Google (in your browser), and click the "settings" link down on the bottom right.

2 --> Select "search settings".

3 --> Under Google Instant Predictions, select the radio button for "never show instant results"

4 --> Scroll to the bottom and click Save.

Now, when you start typing in the search bar, you'll see 10 Autosuggest results instead of 4.

You'll have a much more detailed view of what people are searching for when it comes to the keywords they use when shopping for cars... You'll have better keyword targets to aim at, and your site content will be more focused on what matters most to automotive consumers.

Conferences, Seminars and Conventions for Auto Industry

AUTO INDUSTRY CONFERENCES FOR CAR DEALERS

Blog posts, tweets, emails — we use all of those digital formats to educate ourselves and our customers, but even in this digital age, it's important to remember the value of a face-to-face conversation.

One of the best places for auto dealers to get that personal experience is at conferences held by industry trade associations.

You can't learn to fly a plane by just joining a pilots organization.

Make plans to attend one of our these auto industry conferences and enjoy the benefits of being a car peep!

NADA CONVENTION AND EXPO

NADA — the National Automobile Dealers Association — invites the executives of major car manufacturers to this yearly convention. These are the people making decisions about the next generation of automobiles, and if you attend the NADA Convention, you can meet along with them.

No matter how experienced you are, you still have things to learn, and at the NADA Convention and Expo, you'll have access to hundreds of exhibits and dozens of workshops.

Many people avoid the exhibit hall at conferences, but you can learn a lot from those vendors. You're not going to buy into each of their products, but you'll get a sense of the industry climate. You can then pick-and-choose which things you bring back to your dealership.

It's important to take advantage of the opportunity when you've got all of these resources in one room.

DIGITAL DEALER CONFERENCE & EXPO

Like the name implies, this conference is focused on digital marketing for auto dealers. Few auto dealers are fully embracing the digital tools available, so this is a great expo to attend if you want to take the lead in your market.

If you're the only auto dealership using digital marketing to its full potential, you're going to be seen as an industry expert to your customers.

Some of the speakers at Digital Dealer might be more progressive than you're comfortable with now, but that's what digital is all about: pushing boundaries. You don't become an industry leader by sticking with the status quo.

Even if you're only ready to implement a few digital changes, this is a great place to get inspiration for your own auto dealership.

DRIVINGSALES EXECUTIVE SUMMIT

This event is tailored to the decision-makers at your dealership.

Here, owners and general managers meet with industry leaders to discuss the future of auto marketing. A lot of innovative ideas are generated at this summit.

If you're looking to network, this is the place to be. The format gives you a much better chance to meet other people in your industry and learn from their experiences.

Some people avoid conferences like this for fear of giving up their competitive edge, but in the long run, that attitude will limit your success.

Collaboration helps uncover new ideas, and it shouldn't be avoided.

DRIVINGSALES CANADIAN DEALER FORUM

DrivingSales isn't exclusive to auto dealers in the United States.

The Canadian Dealer Forum features the same progressive conversations as the American conference. That said, this conference does offer different speakers and would be worth your time even if you visited the event down south.

This forum brings together thinkers from within the auto industry as well as outside.

Customers won't think twice about the conferences you attend, but the information and innovation you bring back to your auto dealership will definitely change your sales and marketing strategy. And that is something customers will notice.

UNFAIR ADVANTAGE MASTERMIND

Each of the conferences on this list offer different benefits. The Unfair Advantage Mastermind event is the most intimate.

You won't find vendors in an exhibit hall here. Instead, the focus is on small-group brainstorming.

Each dealer works with an advisory council, sharing successes, challenges and ideas with a group. There are far fewer pitches and more collaboration than any other event we've seen.

Visitors from companies like Alj Toyota SaudiTorres JewelersIng Bank are attending this event

BUSINESS & PERSONAL GROWTH

If you're not taking time to attend at least one industry conference every year, you're missing out on a lot of potential for your auto dealership.

The face-to-face conversations you have at these events lead to unexpected opportunities for your dealership — and yourself. The new ideas and new connections can give you fresh ideas to manage your career growth and learning.

An industry conference isn't the only way to improve your business. Visit and join the Automotive Digital Marketing Professional Community at http://www.ADMPC.com.com to read more about marketing, sales, service, parts and operational tactics specifically for auto dealerships.

New Social Media AutoMarketing Tool Direct From Twitter

Introducing Twitter Dashboard

For businesses, Twitter is a place to share news, tell stories, and have conversations that support, educate, and delight their customers. It's a place for authentic interactions – but we know that creating these kinds of connections isn't always easy for businesses that are time and resource-constrained. That's why we built a brand new app to help the busy people behind these businesses. Introducing: Twitter Dashboard.

Twitter Dashboard is a powerful tool designed to help businesses connect with their customers and community. Large, dedicated teams typically have the advantage of sophisticated tools provided by Twitter ecosystem partners. Today we're offering a free tool to give all businesses an advantage in the way they use Twitter. With an iOS app and desktop web experience, Dashboard offers a single destination to get things done. It gives business owners a clear picture of what's being said about their businesses, lets them schedule Tweets, and offers insights about their Tweet performance.

Dashboard can help you:

Easily engage with your audience
Create a custom feed to find out what's being said about your business. (Chances are there's more than the mentions you'd normally be notified about!) Use your custom feed to get right to the Tweets you want to see first and better engage with your community. For example, if you work at a cafe, you may see a Tweet from a customer who has a question about your hours. Or, if you're a boutique owner, you might see a Tweet from a potential customer talking about one of your products. The ability to see these Tweets at a glance offers endless opportunities for you to connect with customers and potential customers with responses that add value.

Tweet when the time is right
Now you can schedule Tweets to reach your audience when they're online and you're busy doing other things. If you want to edit your scheduled Tweets while you're on the go, you can use the iOS Dashboard app to update your Tweet queue.

Get Tweet ideas and inspiration
Kickstart your creative process with Tweet tips geared just for businesses. They can help you start conversations and engage your audience in those moments when you're not sure what to Tweet. For example, if you work at a restaurant, a tip like, "Your team is as unique as your business. Tweet a surprising fact about one of your team members," might remind you to share some recent recognition your chef received. Or, if you're an interior designer, seeing, "Share the love. Like and Retweet kind words from your customers," might prompt you to Retweet a customer's excited reaction to one of your recent projects.

We've heard from businesses about how they plan to integrate Twitter Dashboard into their marketing strategy:

Being able to easily schedule Tweets and manage my queue with Twitter Dashboard is critical to staying on track with our engagement campaigns on Twitter.

Logan Robinson, Social Media Manager@GarnetandGold

From our first use we could tell Twitter Dashboard would become an essential tool for our business. Not only is scheduling Tweets now a seamless experience, but having access to a custom timeline is helping us identify the best opportunities to engage with our customers and potential customers on Twitter.

Jeff Kitchen, Online Community Manager@Crutchfield

CDK Global Announces Organizational Restructuring

CDK Global Announces Comprehensive Reorganization

CDK Global Announces Comprehensive Reorganization

CDK Global Announces Comprehensive Reorganization Focused on Improving Customer Experience and Creating a More Efficient Organization

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill., CDK Global, Inc. announced a comprehensive streamlining of its organization that will enable it to improve customers’ experience, create significant efficiencies, and better align the Company to implement its transformation plan. The new structure, which will become effective July 1, 2016, will reorganize the Company into two main operating groups: CDK North America and CDK International. The organizational changes also include integrating product management, combining Digital Marketing and Automotive Retail North America operations into a single organization, creating a single North America Sales organization, and forming a single global R&D organization. Concurrent with the reorganization, the Company also announced a number of leadership changes.
“These fundamental changes to our global structure and leadership team will create a flatter, faster, and more efficient organization that puts the customer first and increases our ability to offer interconnected products and solutions,” said Brian MacDonald, chief executive officer at CDK Global. “When I joined CDK, I immediately recognized the tremendous capabilities we had as an organization, but we also have to acknowledge a number of limitations. CDK has essentially operated as three separate entities with an overly complex array of products, duplicate product development organizations, overlapping capabilities and inefficiencies. This hindered our ability to effectively develop and deliver solutions that take advantage of our broad capabilities.”

“As we look to a future where customers want more integrated and innovative offerings like Connected Store, we need to change our structure to meet these needs. Our new simplified structure will help the organization move faster for customers and will bring product groups together for increased collaboration across our offerings to enable better product integration. We will also be able to deploy critical capabilities globally—like R&D—to leverage scale and share best practices. In addition, a combined sales organization will simplify customer contact and provide a comprehensive offering, laying the foundation for seamless integration of digital products with the Dealer Management System,” he continued.

The savings that will be realized from the reorganization are included in the Company’s previously announced transformation plan targets of realizing a total of $250-275 million additional adjusted EBITDA dollars and achieving adjusted EBITDA margins of 35 percent in fiscal 2018. MacDonald added, “These savings cannot be achieved without the fundamental reorganization we are announcing today.”

The following changes to the organization will become effective July 1, 2016.
  • CDK North America - The Company is combining its Automotive Retail North America (ARNA) and Digital Marketing groups into a single business unit—CDK North America—which will be led by Bob Karp, currently president of ARNA.
  • CDK International - Previously known as Automotive Retail International (ARI), this business unit will now be called CDK International and will be led by Andrew Dean, currently president of ARI.
  • Strategy, Marketing and Product Management - North America Product Management will be streamlined and consolidated into the strategy, marketing and product management group led by Malcolm Thorne, chief global strategy officer.
  • North America Sales - The Company will combine its sales teams into one integrated North America sales team led by Scott Mathews, currently president of Digital Marketing.
  • Research & Development  - A single R&D group has been formed under the leadership of Rajiv Amar, recently named Chief Technology Officer.
  • Information Technology  - Dean Crutchfield has been appointed Chief Information Officer and will lead a consolidated organization responsible for internal application development, global IT infrastructure, global security and enterprise-wide data stewardship.
“I’m very pleased to announce this reorganization and the formation of a new leadership team, which is a fundamental step to achieving the goals of our transformation plan. I am confident in my new leadership team’s ability to execute on our key corporate priorities, and I am excited about the benefits this will bring to customers, associates, and shareholders,” continued MacDonald.
